Wrestling

Maple Lake Sports Camp was originally known as Russ Houk's Wrestling Camp. The camp started in 1962 and became the U.S. Olympic and Pan-American Games Training Camps from 1964-1973; and the Camp was the host training Center for the Canadian World and Olympic Teams. Founded by wrestling legend Russ Houk, Maple Lake Sports Camp has thrived for over forty years. Houk, who was the U.S. Olympic Team Manager in 1972 and 1976, had World and Olympic Greats at camp such as Dan Gable, Chris Taylor, Rick Sanders, John & Ben Peterson, Russ Hellickson, Stan Dziedzic, Wade Schalles, Lee Kemp, Gray Simons, Don Behm, Wayne Wells and more. Many of the camps structures were built by some of these greats. Come be part of history!

You may choose from three different programs offered over a period of six weeks by three different coaching staffs. Team weeks are offered as are single weeks of wrestling and for individuals that want more, there is a two week intensive camp!

Gene Mills: Gene was a member of our 1980 Olympic team and voted "Athlete of the Year" by the US Olympic Committee. He won two NCAA Championships and voted Outstanding Wrestler. Gene has won 3 World Cup Titles, pinned his way through the Pan-American Games and the prestigious Tblisi (USSR) Championships and voted the Outstanding Wrestler. He was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame in June 2000. Gene loves giving back to the sport and teaching wrestling. Gene's goal is to teach wrestlers to pin from their feet, top and bottom. What makes Gene's camp different? Gene teaches everyday!
